The Organization

Founded in 2017, The Black Trans Prayer Book, is an organization born from a text of the same name, that our Co-Directors published after years of healing and organizing work with (and as) Black Trans & Non-Binary leaders. Our core belief, is that violence impacting Black Trans people, is primarily rooted in colonial religious practices that show up in our political, interpersonal and institutional lives. As a community that experiences high rates of sexual, domestic, psychological, state and financial violence, our goal is to create the conditions under which frameworks, ideologies and theologies of healing are more abundant and accessible than theologies of hate. Through the creation of materials such as books, films and other media, along with healing spaces and workshops for Black Trans & Non-Binary people and our solidarity partners, we seek to create a world that is honest about the reach of religious violence while seeking to dismantle its impacts. We are predominately led by Black Trans Disabled peoples.
